A beloved community tradition is making a comeback to Xenia, thanks to a local downtown business owner. Becky Hawkes, owner of the FLOUR Bake Shop and FLOUR Box Gift Shop, has organized a weekly farmer's market which will have a soft opening on Saturday, May 13, just in time for Mother's Day.
Hawkes has coined the market, Xenia Farmer's Market On the Square, since vendors will be positioned along E. Main Street, N. Detroit Street and Greene Street, surrounding the Greene County Courthouse. The market will run every Saturday from May 13 through September 2, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. "We are very excited to bring a farmer's market back to Xenia, especially in our historic downtown," Hawkes said. "Visitors can expect to find goods from local growers, cottage bakers, including a gluten-free baker, and artisan crafters. All of these items will be sold at competitive prices."

The first market, which will be held the day before Mother's Day, is geared toward items for moms and grandmas. Shoppers will be able to find seedlings for the garden, potted and hanging plants, bird feeders, bird houses, wind chimes, spinners, and more. Produce will not be available at the May 13th market. Future markets will truly have something for the whole family. Xenia Fire Division will be attending one of the markets to offer kids a chance to get an up-close look at their vehicles. Hawkes said there will also be face painters and balloon artists one weekend. She is also working to coordinate a kid's crafting class as well as having local educators come and talk about honeybees and the difference between home-grown and processed foods.
The market has several local sponsors, if you would like to be a sponsor, you can contact FLOUR Promotions by email.
