Xenia holding annual Beggar's Night on October 31

2020 Beggar's Night

Get your costume ideas finalized, Xenia will be holding its annual Beggar's Night this year. This year it will be held on Saturday, October 31st from 6:00 - 8:00, rain or shine. In the event of dangerous weather (i.e. storms) Beggar's Night will instead be held on Sunday, November 1st from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage families who do choose to trick or treat to keep safety in mind regarding social distancing, wearing masks, and safely wiping down candy wrappers upon returning home. Those who are handing out candy are encouraged to do so through an alternate manner. Greene County Public Health recently released health guidelines from the State of Ohio to safely participating, which can be found online. A few ideas of handing out Halloween treats in a safe way include setting them on your porch or on a table outside and asking children to take just one treat. Another creative idea was to create a 'candy slide' using PVC pipe.

Health officials recommend that children only eat factory-wrapped treats, and to avoid homemade goodies made by strangers. It is also recommended to limit the number of homes visited during trick or treat and for children not to reach into a bowl/common container to select their candy treat.

If your child is at greater risk of complications from COVID-19, it is recommended that you consult his/her doctor before participating.
