The City of Xenia is undertaking a project that will replace current water meters with a state-of-the-art meter reading system. Beginning Monday, June 15, residents and businesses should be aware that crews from NECO will be working to replace meters throughout the community. Most customers’ meters are located at the curb thereby limiting disruptions to the customer. Customers who still have meters inside a home or business will be contacted by NECO to setup an appointment for replacement.
The new meter system will be installed citywide and the project will take several months to complete. Once installed, the new system will allow residents to check their water usage on a much more frequent basis, provide timely leak detection notifications, and supply more detailed usage information, all while ensuring long-term meter accuracy. It will also measure water usage in gallons instead of the currently used method of cubic feet.
NECO crews will be driving marked vehicles and will be outfitted with name tags. Installation of the new meter system at each address will take between 30 and 60 minutes. Any resident who sees crews working in their neighborhood can call the City Administration Building (937) 376-7231 or Xenia Police Division (937) 376-7221 if they have questions.
