For the third year, the City of Xenia will offer its Citizens Academy. The Xenia Citizens Academy is a six-week interactive program meant to enhance participants’ knowledge about how the City of Xenia operates.
This year the Citizens Academy will begin on Tuesday, February 18th. Each session is held on either a Tuesday or Thursday and includes classroom time and three field trips.
Xenia resident Nancy McPeak has participated in the two previous sessions and plans to attend the session in 2020. “I learned so much about the operations of the city that were unknown to me,” she said. Classroom sessions cover City Governance Structure, Budget and Finance, Economic Development and Planning and Zoning. “The sessions were very informative as to where the incoming money comes from and where and how the money is spent,” McPeak said. Participants are also invited to attend a Xenia City Council meeting as part of the academy. City Council meetings are always open to the public to attend.
The second half of the academy consists of field trips to the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Xenia Police and Dispatch and Xenia Fire Division.
The academy is free to attend. If you are interested, you can fill out a form online and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications will be accepted until classes are full.
