Ohio artist begins work on second tree carving in Shawnee Park

For the past 20 years, Matt Missey has been making artwork out of trees.

Missey uses a chainsaw to carve intricate images into trees and already has artwork in Xenia's Shawnee Park.

On Tuesday, October 1, Missey started work on his second project in Shawnee Park, a sculpture of Tecumseh, the well-known Shawnee leader. After Missey finishes carving the red oak tree into Tecumseh's image, he will seal the wood and give it paint.

The project will continue into Wednesday, October 2. Missey said the red oak he's carving is perfect for the artwork. Missey lives in northern Ohio and made the three-hour trip to Xenia for the project.

Tecumseh was born in Greene County, just outside of Xenia in 1768.
