City of Xenia Shows Teachers Appreciation in 2019

City of Xenia Teacher Appreciation 2019

Every week is teacher appreciation week, but as the official recognition week winds down, Xenia Mayor Sarah Mays and some other notable City officials wanted to let our community know how they feel about the role of teachers in our community. Thanks for your dedication to the students of Xenia!

"Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system." ~Sidney Hook (An American Philosopher 1902-1989)

Below are statements from some of our City officials to show our appreciation for teachers.

City of Xenia Mayor, Sarah Mays:

"Our teachers have the incredible privilege of impacting children not just in the classroom, but for many years to come. Thank you, teachers, for taking time to not only teach, but to love and care for the students God placed in front of you. My prayer for Xenia teachers comes from Psalms 34:5, 'those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy.' Thank you!"

Xenia City Manager, Brent Merriman:

"I am so thankful for the contributions our teachers make in the lives of our children. For me personally, some of the most impactful people in my life have been teachers. I remember them fondly for helping cultivate in me an interest in government and in history, and helping to develop abilities in writing and in math and so many other skills that I call on every day as a professional. Yet, beyond the things they taught, it was their role modeling of citizenship, investing in the lives of others, and in truly caring for people - especially young people - that has had the biggest impact on me. I owe a great deal to my teachers, and they would encourage me to pass my gratitude forward. So, thank you Xenia Community Schools instructors and other school teachers in Xenia! Thank you for giving, for caring, for investing in our students and in the future of our community."

Xenia Municipal Court Judge, Michael Murry:

"As the judge of Xenia Municipal Court, I am truly appreciative of the dedicated teachers who serve our communities. Teachers provide valuable subject matter material, but, in my opinion, equally as important is the fact our teachers serve as positive role models to the young people with whom they interact with every day. When a student goes to school every day, takes classes and extra-curricular activities seriously, and actively engages with the teachers, the odds are greatly reduced that I will see such a student in court. Teachers are one of our communities' most valuable assets. Thank you, teachers, for all you do. Judge Michael K. Murry."

Xenia Human Resources Director, Jackie Potter:

"I'm always amazed at the many roles a teacher plays in the lives of children beyond the normal responsibilities of educating our youngsters. We are very fortunate to have individuals passionate about their profession; it's not a career but a calling to service others."

Xenia Fire Chief, Ken Riggsby:

"We appreciate all that our teachers do for the children in our community. Our teachers are the ones that are building our future. Thanks for what you do!"

Xenia D.A.R.E. Police Officer, Jackie Masur:

"I have the privilege to work with the elementary teachers through the DARE program. After being in the classroom and going to the schools every day, I have the utmost respect for what they do. Their job is not easy and they all do an excellent job. They not only provide the kids with knowledge, but care so much about them and their well-being. They want them all to succeed. I am proud and thankful for the teachers I get to work with every day.

The City of Xenia would like to say that we appreciate teachers, specifically teachers in Xenia who are helping raise our future community.
