Fire Hydrant Flushing

Fire Hydrant Flushing

Twice a year the City of Xenia flushes fire hydrants in order to test the hydrants and clean the water mains (main line in the water supply system). The City will commence the flushing program once in the spring and again in the fall. The flushing program will be conducted during the day between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The water is safe to drink; however, it is suggested that all residents check the water before attempting to draw water or do laundry. If you have a water softener, it is suggested that the unit not be cycled at night unless the water has been checked. In addition, the softener can be bypassed if the water is discolored for any length of time.

The Hydrant Flushing scheduled for 2023 will be for the weeks of May 1st and September 25th. View the Hydrant Flushing Notice, which includes the tentative schedule. View a map of the City with the Hydrant Flushing Zones outlined for each day of the week.

Residents should be aware that when hydrants are flushed in one area of the City, water may also become discolored in other areas.
