About the Commission

The Traffic Commission is governed by Chapter 284 of the Xenia Codified Ordinances per passage of Ordinance 2018-31 on 10/25/2018. The duties of the Traffic Commission shall be as follows:

  • Review and report to Council its recommendations on any traffic matter referred to it by City Council;
  • Carry on public education activities in traffic matters;
  • Receive and review any complaints from the public having to do with traffic issues, to investigate such complaints, to determine whether such complaints are valid, and to forward such valid complaints to the Public Safety Director, with its recommendations;
  • Review requests from private individuals for disability parking spaces on public ways and/or public property and make recommendations to the Public Safety Director on whether to grant such requests; and
  • Make monthly reports to the City Council, if needed.

The Traffic Commission is a recommending body to City Council and consists of five volunteers who are residents of the City and are appointed by the City Council to staggered terms of four years each. One Council member serves as chair as appointed by the Council President at their second regular session in January of each year. Staff representatives shall include a representative from the office of the City Engineer and a staff representative from the Police Division.
