Police
Special Services
The Special Services Section falls under the direct supervision of the Special Services Captain and consists of Criminal Investigations, the Internet Child Protection Unit, DIVERT (Domestic Intervention Violent Emergencies Response Team), and the D.A.R.E. Program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education).
Criminal Investigations
There are four detectives (one for each geographical section of the city) who have the responsibility to conduct criminal investigations of all misdemeanor and felony crimes reported in the City of Xenia. These detectives conduct interviews, collect evidence, apprehend criminals, and work closely with the prosecutor's office to prosecute criminal offenders. In addition, there is one detective assigned to the DIVERT program and one detective who works directly with the Greene County Agencies for Combined Enforcement (ACE) to investigate and prosecute drug offenders in Greene County.
D.A.R.E.
The D.A.R.E. program is a cooperative effort between the Xenia Police Division and the Xenia Community School District to prevent drug abuse in children and youth. The program emphasis of D.A.R.E. is to help students recognize and resist the many subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with drugs, gangs, and violence.
DIVERT
The DIVERT Program is a collaborative project among the Xenia Police Division, Greene County Domestic Violence Project, and the Greene County Children's Services Board. DIVERT is an early intervention program designed to decrease incidences of domestic violence in the community by having a police officer/social worker team respond to domestic violence and dispute calls. Victims and families are provided with home-based crisis intervention, referrals to community resources, safety plans, and follow-up support. The DIVERT detective's office is located at the site of the Domestic Violence Shelter.
Internet Child Protection Unit
The Xenia Police Division established the Internet Child Protection Unit in March 2000 in response to the growing use of the Internet as a means for child sexual exploitation. Our Internet Unit has received national recognition and has been recognized throughout the state and in the law enforcement community as a leader in this field of investigations. The Internet Unit's early work in these types of crimes was the catalyst for the 2001 Ohio House Bill 724, which changed the Importuning law to make it a felony to solicit sex from a minor online.
