Mission:

It is the mission of the Planning and Zoning Department to foster a livable community through thoughtful planning and creative and efficient use of resources and opportunities.  The Planning and Zoning Department's role to shape the City is achieved through the following functions:

Long Range Planning:

The Planning and Zoning Department develops and maintains the City's Comprehensive Plan which provides the framework for land development. It covers Land Use Plans, Transportation and Bikeways Plans, Parks and Recreation Plans and Special Improvement and Development Plans.

Regional Land Use Initiatives:

Represents the City's interest in regional planning forum, by assessing and identifying local improvement needs for incorporation in Regional Plans and accessing grant funding opportunities.

Data and Information Services:

Manages the database of the City of Xenia that includes census and demographic information, City history, building and development statistics and neighborhood information. These statistics are important information to investors such as current and prospective residents and businesses.

Development Services:

Manages and coordinates with the Development Department the development services involving the reviews and approval of development plans. This service involves the provision of staff support for the Xenia Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and City Council with regard to the approval of development projects.

Zoning Enforcement:

Administers the Planning and Zoning Code through the proper review and approval of zoning permit applications, post construction verification of compliance with approved plans and investigation and appropriate disposition of zoning and code violations. This Division works closely with the Greene County Office of Building Regulations which administers the City's building and inspections services.

Property Maintenance:

Inspects and enforces the Planning and Zoning Code through investigation and appropriate disposition of property maintenance code violations. This Division works closely with homeowners to address issues and works cooperatively with the Zoning Enforcement Division.
